What To Expect

Chiropractic Care

What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic care allows every individual to express their inborn/innate potential by understanding and respecting the self-maintaining nature of life and living beings.  Doctors of Chiropractic are experts on the nervous system and how it communicates with every cell, organ, and system within the body.  Chiropractors help maintain clear communication between the nervous system and the body, in doing so, this allows for optimal health and well-being.  This is achieved through a vitalistic approach for those who seek drugless, non-surgical approaches to achieve their healthcare goals.

Proper spinal alignment is essential for optimal health and well-being.  Doctors of Chiropractic treat what is called a “Vertebral Subluxation“.  When a vertebral subluxation occurs, it can result in nerve interference and some portion of the body is affected by those nerves.  To simplify this, there are three causes of subluxation/nerve interference:

  1. Physical – the physical is when an actual bone moves out of position from either the bone above or bone below.  This puts physical stress on the nervous system at that particular level(s).  This is the traditional mindset and the basis of chiropractic.
  2. Chemical – our bodies are living creatures and in order to maintain proper function we must feed our bodies for proper chemical function within our cells.  Foods we eat and chemicals we ingest can be neurotoxic (toxic to our nervous system).  If our nerves are chemically impaired, this leads to chemical subluxation throughout different systems in the body. By using whole food supplementation we can help correct these imbalances that lead to subluxations.
  3. Emotional – we are spiritual beings and the experiences we go through can hold different stress patterns within our spine and body.  By recognizing these we can help the body rid of these stress patterns and allow the body a clear communication with the central nervous system.

All three of these causes are important to recognize and correct.  Dr. Wendy Sanches can detect and correct these causes of vertebral subluxation.  The overall concept is that we are self-healing and self-regulating and the central nervous system controls all of the healing and regulating in the body.  Any interference to the nervous system results in a body that is not healing and regulating as well as it should be.  Chiropractors focus on correcting that interference.

Laying the foundation for total health

In some ways, one could say that chiropractic care is a bit like building a house - certain things have to happen in a particular order in order for everything to stand strong and work together correctly. When building a house, if you tried to build your walls before you had a solid foundation, your walls would be weak and eventually may even collapse. If you tried to build your roof before the walls were ready, you would run into the same problem. These concepts apply to your body as well, and chiropractic care addresses many common reasons why people experience pain and other health issues. If something is not right with your body's foundation, than that needs to be addressed before true health can be achieved. With chiropractic care, your body has to go through a particular plan of care in order to repair itself correctly and fully. There are three general phases of chiropractic care . . .

Phase 1: Relief Care

If you are in pain when you come into our Rincon chiropractic office, our first objective is to help you reduce pain and start feeling better as soon as possible. Depending on the severity of the underlying condition which is causing your pain, it is typical for a patient to need chiropractic care or adjustments 2-3 times per week for 4-12 weeks.

Phase 2: Corrective/Restorative Care

During the corrective phase of chiropractic care, muscles and other tissues are allowed to heal more completely, which helps prevent further injury or pain. The goal of corrective or restorative chiropractic care is to help bring your body back to 100% functioning. It is typical to need chiropractic care or adjustments about 4-8 times per month for 6-24 months, depending on your overall health and the severity of your problem.

Phase 3: Wellness Care

Once your body has fully healed and you are no longer experiencing back pain or other pain symptoms, it is important to come in for periodic chiropractic adjustments to avoid further problems in the future. Usually, this phase of chiropractic care only requires a quick visit to the chiropractor 1-4 times per month, based on your lifestyle and goals.
